About me
An introduction to Sylviane Thomas
Where it started
I started painting properly in about 2012. I love it and I am completely hooked to it, despite the frustrations and bad days, when everything gets ruined. Renoir said “I have so much to learn”, well I just have to join the club and keep on learning, lol.
For the moment I am concentrating my creativity on oil painting and pastels. I have done a fair amount of seascapes, as I love the sea, above and below. My husband, who is a marine biologist, has given me that love for it. I remember, as a child, my parents could not afford to go to the coast, as we lived in Lyon, so there was no fear of getting to the seaside. Seeing the sea for the first time was magical and I have become more and more fascinated by it. Painting the sea certainly cheered me up during the Co-Vid confinement.
Pastels
I have also worked with pastels a lot, particularly to draw animal “portraits”, including several commissions. I love working with pastels, as it is an easy media to carry with me, wherever I am, and it gives me great pleasure to see the creativity I can produce. After finishing my very first one, I felt on top of the world, as I could really do something with it. It gave me real pleasure to see it on the wall as I was ill at the time and confined to bed, it cheered me up through that difficult time. I have also progressed on to human portraits, using both oils and pastels, as I felt I wanted to stretch myself with new challenges.
Exhibitions
For a few years now I have been entering the world of exhibitions. I felt previously that I was selling my babies, so I was not mentally ready for it. I have gifted lots of my paintings to friends and family, but I have accepted now, that I would like to be recognized as an artist by the public, to give me that extra drive. (link exhibitions).
